Lady Rockets blast past Cordova

The Rockingham Middle School volleyball team and coach Teresa Mason improved to 4-0 on the season with two wins on the road at Cordova Middle School.

The Lady Rockets won in three sets in the first match behind set scores of 25-6, 17-25 and 15-6. Game two was a sweep for Rockingham, which won by set scores of 25-16 and 25-12.

J’Nasia Neal led Rockingham with 32 points and was helped by Kamora Watkins’ 23 points. Madisen Jackson had a good afternoon for the Lady Rockets, contributing 22 points in the two wins.

Other players to help Rockingham stay perfect on the season were Sharonda Henderson (14 points), Melissa Canas and Tess Bryant (both with 7 points) and Gracie Scott (2 points).

No information was submitted for the Lady Cavaliers, who are now 1-3 on the season. Rockingham will face its rival Hamlet at home next Monday, and the Lady Cavs will host rival Ellerbe the same day. Both matches will begin at 4 p.m.

The first match was 25-18 and 25-6, and the second half of the doubleheader was won using set scores of 25-13 and 25-15. Hamlet improved to 3-1 on the season.

For Ellerbe, Zoey Robson and Cassie Locklear “served well” and the Lady Wildcats improved play from their first game. Allen Adeimy said Ellerbe was “getting in a higher percentage of its serves and improving their service returns.”

The Lady Wildcats will look for their first win of the season when they travel to in-county rival Cordova next Monday. Hamlet and Rockingham will meet in a conference championship rematch from last season. Both slates will get underway at 4 p.m.
