A pair of Richmond County middle school boys’ soccer teams will play at Richmond Senior High School for the playoff championship next week.
No. 4 Rockets upset No. 1 West Hoke
In Wednesday’s semifinal match, the Rockingham Middle School boys’ soccer team pulled off an upset over No. 1 West Hoke on the road.
The Rockets won 3-0 and all three goals were scored by Cayden Gillenwater.
With the victory, Rockingham improved to 8-3 on the season and will compete against rival Hamlet Middle School for the championship.
West Hoke ended the season with an 8-2 record.
No. 2 Hamlet holds off No. 3 East Hoke

The No. 2 Hamlet Red Rams welcomed in No. 3 East Hoke during the semifinals and used two goal scorers to earn a win and advance.
Defeating the Eagles 3-2, the Red Rams got some help from Eric Rodriguez, who scored two goals in the victory.
Adding the other tally for Hamlet was Kimahri Johnson. East Hoke finished its season with an 8-3 record.
Now the Red Rams (8-2) will prepare to take on the Rockets in the championship match on Tuesday. The game will begin at Richmond following the girls’ championship, starting at around 6 p.m.
