No. 2 Raiders eye return to state title game

Continuing their march through the NCHSAA 4A East state playoffs, the No. 2 Raiders are back in the regional championship game for the second time in as many seasons.

After defeating No. 3 Green Level High School by 18 points in the fourth round, Richmond (25-5) and head coach Donald Pettigrew are getting some time to prepare for No. 1 New Hanover High School (31-0).

Tip-off is estimated to begin around 6 p.m. Thursday at the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Winston-Salem. The Richmond Observer will publish a preview later this week.

Should the Raiders win, they would advance to their second straight 4A state title game and face either No. 2 Lake Norman or No. 5 North Mecklenburg. That game is scheduled for Saturday in Winston-Salem as well.

Richmond and head coach Chris Larsen will close the week Friday at Pinecrest High School (1-4). That game will start at 7 p.m.
