The Week Ahead: Lighter schedule for Richmond in final week before break

ROCKINGHAM — The fifth week of spring sports at Richmond Senior High School will culminate in spring break for the Raiders and Lady Raiders.

Before the district goes into its 10-day hiatus from the classroom, most of Richmond’s spring programs will compete this week.

Baseball team looks to extend winning streak

Winners of its last four games, the Richmond Raider baseball team will play a two-game Sandhills Athletic Conference series this week.

The Raiders (7-2, 4-2 SAC) will travel to Union Pines High School (4-6, 1-3 SAC) Tuesday and host the Vikings Wednesday. Both games will start at 7 p.m.

Friday and Saturday, the Raiders will compete in the Jack Sink Baseball Classic. Friday’s game will be at East Mecklenburg (4:30 p.m.) and Saturday’s game at Myers Park will start at 7 p.m.

The Richmond junior varsity baseball team (0-6, 0-5 SAC) will travel to Union Pines Tuesday and play at home Wednesday. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.

Softball teams hopes to snap skid

After losing its last two SAC games, the Lady Raider softball team will get one shot at returning to the win column before break.

The Lady Raiders (4-3, 3-2 SAC) will close out their first round of conference play at Scotland (6-0, 5-0 SAC) Tuesday at 7 p.m.

The JV Lady Raiders (3-1, 2-1 SAC) will also play one game at Scotland Tuesday. Action will start at 4:30 p.m.

Lady Raider soccer to play one non-conference match

Also having a lighter schedule this week, the Lady Raider soccer team will play just one match before break.

The Lady Raiders (4-3-2) will welcome in Pine Forest High School (6-1-1) Thursday. The non-conference match will start at 7 p.m.

In junior varsity action, the JV Lady Raiders (4-1) will host the JV Trojans at 5:15 p.m. Thursday.

Track and field teams on the road at Hoke County

Richmond’s boys and girls track and field teams will return to action Wednesday at Hoke County High School. 

Also competing will be Lee County High School. Events will begin at 5 p.m.

Raider golf hosts home match

The Richmond Raider golf team will compete in its third nine-hole match of the season Monday.

The Raiders will tee off at 3 p.m. at Foxfire Golf Club and host their lone home match of the season against the other SAC teams.

Sports editor’s note: The Raider tennis team will not compete this week.
