ROCKINGHAM — Glennie C. Chavis, 80, of Rockingham, passed away Saturday, July 3, 2021 at The Hermitage Retirement Center, Rockingham.
Glennie was born Nov. 27, 1940 in Richmond County, daughter of Willie Chavis and Ollie English Hill.
She was a member of Highland Acres Church of God, Rockingham, where she was a former Sunday school secretary and church greeter. Previously she was employed at Sara Lee Hosiery. As well, she was a member of the Hamlet Senior Center, The Red Hat Club, The Ladies Cooter Club, Silver Liners dance team and Hamlet Seniors Cheerleaders. She participated in all of Hamlet Senior Games; and she and her husband won a first-place ribbon in the canning competition at the Hamlet Fair. Also, she won a first-prize ribbon in the afghan crocheting competition in the Senior Games. A very talented lady, as well as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 from 11 a.m.-noon at Harrington Funeral Home.
The funeral will begin in the chapel at noon; burial will follow at Richmond Memorial Park, Rockingham.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Grover Chavis and Hurley Chavis; sisters, Minnie Ruth Sweatt, Madeline Malloy, Jennie Mae Adcock and Lillian Guinn.
Survivors are her husband, Charles R. Chavis of the home; daughters, Lisa Chavis of Cornelius and Michelle Schnell (Van) Of Rockingham; son, Larry Malloy (Cheryle) of Rockingham; brother, Carson Chavis of Wake Forest; two grandchildren, Kevin Schnell (Taylor) and Ariel Johnson (Josh); and three great-grandchildren, Jeremiah Johnson, Lorelia Johnson and Cirilla Schnell.
