Franklin Edward Floyd, 92, of Ellerbe, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2024 at Hospice Haven in Rockingham.
Mr. Floyd was born Oct. 10, 1931 in Richmond County, a son of the late Benjamin Franklin “Benny” and Eva Stephens Floyd.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army (Airborne) and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He began a career in law enforcement as an ABC officer in Moore County, rising through the ranks he retired as chief. Following retirement he returned to law enforcement working for 15 years as a bailiff with the Moore County Sheriff’s Department.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings, Allen Floyd, J.T. Floyd, Charles Floyd, Robert Floyd, Ray Floyd, Elizabeth Smith, Sue Ashworth, Joyce Daniels and Helen Parker.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Stella Bowman Floyd; children, Diane Meacham (Mickey) and Sam Floyd (Bonnie); grandchildren, Michael, Lindsay, Amy, Samantha, Amanda and Wesley; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Dennis Floyd and Steve Floyd and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, 2024 at Ellerbe Cemetery with the Rev. Tim Hawks officiating.
