Mrs. Janis Smith Benson, “Bub,” 75, of Rockingham, passed away surrounded by her loving family Aug. 1, 2023.
Janis was the daughter of the late Robert G. and Catherine Carnes Smith, born June 17, 1948, in Rockingham, North Carolina.
Along with her parents, Janis is preceded in death by her husband Tim, whom she was married to for 40 years before his passing.
Janis was born and raised in Richmond County and retired from a successful career in the Richmond County Finance Office. Janis enjoyed her soaps, her sports and her shopping. Most of all, she loved her family.
Janis is survived by her son, Tim Benson and wife Shannon of Charlotte; her daughter, Angie Long and husband, Bryan Long of Terrell; sister, Brenda Pressley and husband Charlie of Mint Hill; and many nieces, nephews and sisters-in-law.
Family will receive friends for visitation Saturday, Aug. 5 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Watson-King Funeral Home in Rockingham. Funeral will follow. A private family burial will be held at a later time.
In addition to flowers, the family wishes for memorial donations to Richmond County Hospice.
