OBITUARY: Melvin T. Sweatt

ROCKINGHAM — Mr. Melvin T. Sweatt of Aslington Street, Rockingham, passed away Saturday, June 18, 2022 at Richmond County Hospice Haven.

Melvin was born Aug. 29, 1943 in Lancaster, South Carolina.

He was self-employed as a painter and wallpaper hanger. Melvin was versatile in several other areas.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Watson-King Funeral Home with Pastor Brian Perry and the Rev. Janice Clark officiating. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, C.W. and Ida Craig Sweatt; as well as five siblings, Juanita, Randy, Donnie Lee, James (J.C.) and Joyce Gail Sweatt.

Surviving are three sisters, Carolyn Harris, the Rev. Janice Clark of Rockingham, and Helen Petrauskas of Eufaula, Oklahoma; two brothers, Charles Sweatt of West End, and Rickey Sweatt of Marston. Melvin also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made out to Richmond County Hospice, 1119 U.S. 1 N, Rockingham; or the Pee Dee United Methodist Church, 101 3rd Ave. Pee Dee, Rockingham.
