ROCKINGHAM — Sylvia Jo Ward Johnson, 59, of Rockingham, passed away Monday, March 20, 2023 at Duke University Medical Center, Durham.
She was born in Freeport, Texas, daughter of Shelby Simmons Peele and the late Harold Peele.
Sylvia worked in clothing retail for several years, owning Johnson’s Clothing in Hamlet. She loved the outdoors, plants and flowers, and loved to fish. She enjoyed taking trips to the beach. She was known from her family with having the largest Barbie doll collection.
She was preceded in death by her father, Harold Peele; and a son, Richard Ward.
Sylvia is survived by her mother, Shelby Peele of Rockingham; fiancée, Mike Lammonds of Rockingham; sisters, Kay Clarke (Steve) and Paula Peele, both of Rockingham; brother, Anthony Hugh Ward of Rockingham; seven nieces and nephews; and 14 great-nieces and great-nephews.
Services will be held privately by the family.
At other times, the family will receive friends at the home of her mother, 101 Evelyn Court, Rockingham.
