OBITUARY: The Rev. Sandy Freeman Jr.

The Rev. Sandy “Bud” Freeman Jr., 90, of Rockingham, North Carolina, went to his heavenly home on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023, surrounded by his loving wife and family.

The Rev. Sandy Freeman Jr. was born Feb. 2, 1933, in Rockingham, to Sandy and Ella Freeman.

Surviving him are his wife of 70 years, Geneva Beverly Freeman of Rockingham; his daughters, Wanda (Philip) Bledsoe of Rockingham, Dianne Moore of Troy, Nancy Napier of Holden Beach, Linda (Jason) Locklear of Holden Beach, Sandra (Rickey) Jones of Rougemont; grandchildren, Brent (Chasity) Bledsoe of Timberlake, Stacy Bledsoe of Ellerbe, Scott Allen of South Carolina, Jami (Shawn) Harris of Rockingham, Jaylin Locklear of Holden Beach; great-grandchildren, Madison Bledsoe of Timberlake, Deacon Richardson of Rockingham, Mason Davidson, Aubrey Allen of South Carolina, and Dylan
Harris of Rockingham.

Sandy is preceded in death by his parents, Sandy and Ella; and siblings, Gerald Freeman, Sweet Tait, Doris Freeman, James Freeman, Alma Ficca, Frances Seevers and Don Ray Freeman. He is also preceded in death by many beloved nieces and nephews, as well as his great-granddaughter, Kameryn Harris.

The Rev. Sandy Freeman Jr. was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and a pastor. He was also a loyal and devoted friend to many. After graduating high school, he married the love of his life. Two months later, he was drafted into the U.S. Army for two years. After serving his country, he had a call on his life to go into the ministry. He attended Holmes Bible College for two years. After graduating from there, he began his over 60 years of service evangelizing the gospel. He loved to share the love of Jesus with everyone he met. He preached his last sermon in 2016.

In his later years, he began a prayer ministry. He would pray for anyone his heart led him to do so. It did not matter if it was right in the aisle of Walmart or while on the phone. He was not ashamed of sharing the love of his Jesus with you or praying with you. His passion was to see souls saved and to meet him in Heaven one day. He read his Bible daily. While being home bound, he read it from cover to cover over 10 times. He believed in keeping his soul fed with the word of Jesus Christ.

The family will receive friends at Mr. Freeman’s home starting Tuesday, Oct. 24th, 2023. The family will receive friends for visitation Wednesday, Oct. 25th, 2023 at Watson-King Funeral Home in Hamlet from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. Service will follow immediately at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Doug Anderson and Gary Payne officiating. The family will have a private graveside.
