ROCKINGHAM — Wallace “Sonny” Harold Freeman Jr., 69, of Rockingham, passed away Thursday, Feb. 23, 2023 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital-Richmond.
He was born Oct. 13, 1953 in Richmond County, son of the late Wallace Harold Freeman Sr. and Frances Moree.
Sonny was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church in Rockingham. He attended Fayetteville Technical Community College and obtained his associate degree in mortuary science. Licensed as a funeral director and embalmer, he served the Richmond County area for several years in funeral service.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Kathy Freeman.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 50 years, Abigail “Abby” Howard Freeman of the home; son, Brian Freeman of Bayboro, South Carolina; daughter, Nikki Freeman of the home; and granddaughter, Katie Freeman.
Visitation will be Monday, Feb. 27, 2023 at Pine Grove Baptist Church, Rockingham, from 11 a.m.-12:45 p.m.
The funeral service will follow the visitation beginning at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Carl Moree, the Rev. Carroll Anthony, the Rev. Sonny Diggs, and Father Franklin Colebrook Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Eastside Cemetery.
