FORT PIERCE, Fla. — Richard Alfonso Sr., 71, of Fort Pierce, Florida, formerly of Rockingham, passed away Sunday, Dec. 26, 2021 at Trident Medical Center in Charleston, South Carolina.
He was born May 26, 1950 in Passaic County, New Jersey.
He was preceded by his wife, Glenda G. Alfonso; his parents, Brazie and Lorraine Alfonso; a daughter, Sharon; two brothers, Michael and Brazie; and one sister, Lorriane.
Richie was a retired truck driver with Perdue. He was a devoted father and husband who always provided for his family. He drove trucks for 40-plus years and loved every minute of it. He loved spending time with his family and, most importantly, his grandkids. Although he is gone in body, he is now reunited with his beautiful bride and he is watching over us here on earth.
A graveside service will be conducted Friday, Dec. 31, 2021 at 1 p.m. at Bear Branch Cemetery with the Rev. Jack Lee officiating.
Surviving are his children, Sonja Buchanan (Stephen) of Hamlet and Christopher Alfonso (Sara) of Charleston, South Carolina, Jennifer Alfonso of Rockingham; grandchildren, Paige and J.R. and his wife Dallas Rushing, Camden, Culter and Chayton Alfonso, Kevin, Brenda and Antonio Alfonso; great-granddaughter, Allie Rose; brothers, Dennis Alfonso (Zora) of New Jersey and Benjy Alfonso (Jean) of Florida; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Watson-King Funeral Home in Rockingham.
