MORVEN – Mrs. Ruby Blackmon Edwards, 86, died Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at Hospice of Union County in Monroe.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, 2019 at Harvest Ministries Outreach Center in Wadesboro with Pastors Tim and Steve Adams officiating. Interment will follow in Anson Memorial Park.

The family will greet friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, 2019 at Leavitt Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Ruby was born Dec. 13, 1932 in Moore County, a daughter of the late Shirley Reagan and the late Madie Florence Frye Blackmon and adopted by her step-father, Earl Lacy Blackmon. She was retired from J.P. Stevens and attended Harvest Ministries Outreach Center in Wadesboro.

Surviving are her children, Ronnie Blackmon of Memphis, Tennessee, Mitchel Thomas Gathings of Wallace, South Carolina and Danny Gathings and Lisa Joy Smith both of Ellerbe; her grandchildren, Ronnie Blackmon Jr., Melinda Blackmon Locklear, Renee Blackmon Butler, Brandon Blackmon, Robin Gathings, Lisa Regina Smith Pierre, Brandi Joy Smith and Michael Aron Smith; and her great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are her brothers and sisters, Wayne Blackmon and Jean Sellers, both of Wallace, South Carolina; Carolyn Gunner and Betty Jo Lisenby, both of Rockingham; and Faye Cagle of Ellerbe and Michael Blackmon of Franklin.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Rodney Edwards; son, Ricky Darrell Gathings; grandson, Keith Gathings; and brother and sister, Edward Blackmon and Joyce McLeod.
