Alex Cockerton - Richmond Observer

EAST ROCKINGHAM — A person was sent to the hospital early Monday afternoon following an accidental shooting at a convenience store.

According to Sheriff Mark Gulledge, two acquaintances were playing on gaming machines at Mill Road Grocery around lunchtime when one of the individuals reached in a fanny pack to get something out and a gun fell out.

The gun reportedly discharged when it hit the floor, striking the other individual in the leg.

The wounded individual was taken to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital-Richmond for treatment and the gun owner left the scene before deputies arrived, according to the sheriff.
