Hamlet Police Department Reports an Active Few Days

HAMLET – The Hamlet Police Department had a lot of activity to contend with in a period of less than three days last week.

From the morning of Monday, January 22 through shortly after midnight of the 25, no less than six significant incidents were reported and investigated.

Three of these crimes resulted in court dates being set for suspects.

On Monday, January 22, a wreck was reported in which one of the vehicles involved was being operated without proper consent.  Porcha Anquenetta Staton, 23, of 808 Ridge Drive, Hamlet, was issued a criminal summons and charged with misdemeanor unauthorized operation of a vehicle.  A court date of February 13 was set.

On Tuesday, January 23, a report was made of injury to personal property when an unoccupied vehicle on East Columbia Street was fired upon.  This case remains under ongoing investigation with no suspects at this time. 

On Wednesday, January 24, a report of a burglary of an occupied dwelling was received by HPD at 12:30 a.m.  The incident occurred at 601 Washington Avenue, but the burglar fled when surprised by the occupant of the home.  This case remains under ongoing investigation with no suspects at this time.

Later on Wednesday, a report was made of a breaking and entering of a vehicle on Thomas Street.  The owner noticed the vandalism at 9:20 p.m., but was unable to estimate when it may have occurred.  This case remains under ongoing investigation with no suspects at this time.

An hour later on Wednesday, January 24, a report was made of a possible trespassing.  Officers responded and found Clyde Helm Field, 33, of no known address, at the location.  Upon questioning and further investigation, it was noted that Field had three outstanding warrants.  The suspect was arrested and charged with second degree trespassing, harassing telephone calls and misdemeanor larceny.  Field is being held in the Richmond County Jail under a $1000 secured bond with a court date of February 5.

The last of these six events occurred just after midnight on the Thursday, January 25, when an officer executed a warrant for Rosheeda Prince, 30, of no known address, for misdemeanor misuse of the 911 system.  Prince was transported to the Richmond County Magistrate’s Office and subsequently housed in the Richmond County Jail under a $500 secured bond with a court date of February 8.

All persons are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
