Adi Jo Bryant Jenkins

HAMLET — Adi Jo Bryant Jenkins, 80, of Hamlet, passed away Thursday, April 1, 2021 at Richmond County Hospice Haven in Rockingham.

Jo was born in Columbus County, on April 2, 1940, a daughter of the late Wilson and Reba Edmund Bryant.

She moved to Hamlet in 1959 to attend the Hamlet Hospital School of Nursing. It was here she met the love of her life, Donald, and began a long career as Jo Jenkins, RN, RRT, CRNA. Jo loved her work in nursing, and respiratory care and anesthesia were her passion.

Jo enjoyed a career of more than 57 years and truly loved what she did. She made many friends along the way, professional and personal, and loved them dearly. She enjoyed helping others.

Jo also had a deep love for her family. She cherished cooking huge meals for her family and friends for the holidays. Cooking was another passion, and Jo loved collecting recipes. Jo enjoyed traveling, gardening, spending time with her pets, and heading to the coast of North Carolina at Oak Island. Jo was a member of First Baptist Church of Hamlet, the Woman’s Club of Hamlet, and many professional organizations. She was a proud member of the Hamlet Hospital School of Nursing Class of 1961.

Jo was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Donald Jenkins.

She is survived by daughter, Tracy Jenkins Sprankle (Ray); son, David Jenkins; daughter, Joy Jenkins Kennedy (Thomas); grandchildren, Andrew Sprankle (Rebecca), Jessica Sprankle, Julie Sprankle, Rad Kennedy, Canyan Jenkins, Anna Kennedy; great-grandchildren, Anne Sprankle, Joseph Sprankle, Ben Sprankle; sister-in-law, Helen Smith, sister-in-law, Brenda Newman (Don); brother-in-law, Danny Jenkins (Cheryl); brother-in-law, J.C. Williams; and many special cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at 12:30 p.m. at Richmond Co. Memorial Park with Dr. Allison Farrah officiating.

The family will receive friends 11 a.m.-noon prior to the graveside services at Watson-King Funeral Home in Hamlet, with a limited number of people in the building. Due to COVID-19, social distancing is encouraged, and please wear a mask.
