OBITUARY: Martin Comodore Long

Martin Comodore “M.C.” Long, 82, passed away surrounded by his loving family at his home Saturday, July 29, 2023.

Martin was the son of the late Martin M. Long and Ruth Thrower Long, born Feb. 19, 1941, in Montgomery County.

Martin was a graduate of Rockingham High School. He retired from Pee Dee Electric. Martin was a hardworking man that prided himself as a jack of all trades, a master of all. He was particularly inclined to woodworking and farming. Along with his passions, Martin loved the American flag and his country.

Martin is survived by his companion, Becky Simmons; children, Marty Long (Theresa), Chip Long (Kathy), Donald Polston (Monica), Nevaeh Long; grandchildren, Samantha Goodman (Jeffrey), Madison Long, Trey Long, Heather Long Dunn (Chris); great-grandchildren, Tyson, Ellie, Jenson, Tucker and CJ. Martin also leaves behind many friends, all of whom will miss him dearly.

The family will receive friends for visitation Thursday, Aug. 3, 2023, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Watson-King Funeral Home in Rockingham. Funeral Services will be conducted Friday, Aug. 4, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Ledbetter United Methodist Church with the Rev. Leon Hawks officiating. Interment will follow at Bear Branch Cemetery.

In addition to flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made out to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105; or the American Cancer Society at P.O. Box 6704 Hagerstown, MD 21741.
