Kathleen Joyce Alfonso, 73, passed away in her home surrounded by her loving family Sunday, July 9, 2023.
Kathleen was a daughter of Thomas Fair and Jean Rakoczy, born Oct. 26, 1949, in Passaic, New Jersey.
Along with her parents, Kathleen is preceded in death by her daughter, Sharon Alfonso.
Kathleen grew up in New Jersey, and graduated from Garfield High School. She would go on to pursue higher education and graduate from Bergen Community College in Paramus, New Jersey, with an associate degree in nursing. Kathleen was a hardworking woman that strove to provide for her family. Kathleen would work as a nurse for over 35 years.
Outside of work, Kathleen was an avid reader. She loved collecting books. Along with collecting books, Kathleen would collect anything and everything elephant related, as that was her favorite animal. She was a generous woman and would give to any one in need; she would frequently donate to St. Jude’s.
Kathleen loved her family, especially her grandchildren. Her grandchildren were her entire world. There was nothing that she wouldn’t do to see her grandchildren smile. Kathleen was a loving and kind woman that will be missed dearly.
Kathleen is survived by her children, Jennifer Alfonso and Richard Alfonso Jr.; brother, Thomas Fair; grandchildren, Kevin Alfonso, Brenda Alfonso-Hines, Antonio Hines Jr., and Hailey Alfonso. Kathleen is also survived by a host of cousins and many friends.
To honor Kathleen’s wishes, the family will not have a memorial service. Instead, the family asks that memorial donations be made out in Kathleen’s honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
